About Opportunity House Child Sponsorship Programs

In a letter announcing the formation of The Pearl S. Buck Foundation in 1964, Pulitzer and Nobel Prize winning author and humanitarian Pearl S. Buck wrote, "This organization shall not act solely or primarily, but only incidentally, as a distributor of relief to deprived children until they are trained, educated and given opportunities to sustain themselves."

Today we support international programs that assist disabled, orphaned, displaced, and minority children and their families.

Pearl S. Buck International's Opportunity House programs are carried out today through our country offices, affiliates, and partners in China, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, South Korea, and Vietnam. Without the assistance provided by Opportunity House programs, children would be denied access to education and basic health care, as well as social and civil rights.

While Child Sponsorship continues to be a major source of funding for the majority of our overseas programs, a Champions for Children program is offered to donors who are committed to improving the lives of children and their families. We also offer a Project Partner opportunity for donors to give to a specific cause in the country of their choice.
