Welcome House offers a variety of comprehensive post-adoption services. All children can benefit: those who quietly struggle with adoption issues; those who respond in harmful ways by using drugs and alcohol, sexually acting out or fighting with their peers; and those children who have specific special needs like mental health issues or learning disabilities. Whatever your situation, we have answers that could make a difference in your family's life.
All adopted children residing in the State of Pennsylvania are eligible for services once their adoption is legally completed. This includes children who were born in different states and even different countries. It can include families who have permanent legal custody of their children or families caring for their relative's children.
Assessment
A trained Welcome House social worker visits with your family, in your home, to help determine the services and community support that can benefit your child. Together, we develop a specific plan to bring about a solution to the issues at hand.
Case Management
Our goal is to support your family in any way possible. We put together a plan to help your family reach desired goals. That may mean we personally visit with your family, accompany you to school meetings, locate resources or make phone calls for you - whatever it takes.
Respite
All parents need a break from time to time, especially if their child is struggling. We'll work with your family to identify respite services that will benefit both you and your child. Respite services can include traditional activities such as overnight stays or specialized child care, but they may also include creative resources such as enabling your child to attend camp or therapeutic horseback riding lessons.
Support Groups
Welcome House can refer you to profesisonally-led support groups for adoptive parents and children who were adopted. These groups give parents and children a place to talk about the challenges they are facing with other people who truly understand.
